The human computer...who is she?

* In 1977 in USA she competed with a computer to see who gives the cube root of 188132517 faster, she won. That same year, at the Southern Methodist University she was asked to give the 23rd root of a 201-digit number; she answered in 50 seconds. Her answer—546,372,891—was confirmed by calculations done at the U.S. Bureau of Standards by the Univac 1101 computer, for which a special program had to be written to perform such a large calculation.
* On June 18, 1980, she demonstrated the multiplication of two 13-digit numbers 7,686,369,774,870 × 2,465,099,745,779 picked at random by the Computer Department of Imperial College, London. She correctly answered 18,947,668,177,995,426,462,773,730 in 28 seconds. This event is mentioned in the 1982 Guinness Book of Records.
* In 1988 she returned to the US to have her abilities studied by Arthur Jensen, a professor of psychology at the University of California, Berkeley. Jensen tested her performance at several tasks, including the calculations of large numbers; Examples of the problems presented to Devi were calculating the cube root of 61,629,875, and the seventh root of 170,859,375. Jensen reported that Devi was able to provide the solution to the aforementioned problems (the answers being 395 and 15 respectively) before Jensen was able to copy them down in his notebook. Jensen published his findings in the academic journal Intelligence in 1990.
She is the human computer, Shakuntala Devi from Bangalore, India who is honoured by Google on her 84th birthday (she died in April 2013).

The Journey is Short

A young lady sat in a public transport. An old grumpy lady came and sat by her side as she bumped into her with her numerous bags. The person sitting on the other side of her got upset, asking the young lady why she did not speak up and say something.

The young lady responded with a smile: "It is not necessary to be rude or argue over something so insignificant, the journey together is so short. I get off at the next stop."

The response deserves to be written in golden letters in our daily behaviour and everywhere:
*It is not necessary to argue over something so insignificant, our journey together is so short*
If each one of us could realize that our passage down here has such a short duration; to darken it with quarrels, futile arguments, not forgiving others, ingratitude and bad attitudes would be a waste of time and energy.

Did someone break your heart? Be calm, the journey is so short..

Did someone betray, bully, cheat or humiliate you? Be calm, forgive, the journey is so short..
Whatever penalty anyone serves us, let's remember that our journey together is so short..
Let us therefore be filled with gratitude and sweetness. Sweetness is a virtue never likened to bad character nor cowardice, but better likened to greatness.

Our journey together down here is really short and cannot be reversed...
No one knows the duration of his journey.
No one knows if he will have to alight at the next stop..

Let us therefore cherish and hold on to friends and family! Let us be calm, respectful, kind, thankful and forgiving to each other. If I've hurt you, I ask your forgiveness. But please remember: The journey down here is so short...

When in dispute, remember Imam Shafi'e's words of wisdom

It is said that Yunus Ibn 'Abd al-A'ala (a student of al-Imam ash-Shafi'i) differed with his teacher, al-Imam Muhammad Ibn Idrees ash-Shafi'i, over an issue while the imam was delivering a lesson in the mosque. So he angrily got up and went home.
At night, Yunus heard a knock on his door and asked who it was. The one knocking answered, "Muhammad Ibn Idrees!"
Yunus thought of everyone who he knew by that name except the Imam. Upon opening the door, he was shocked to see Imam Shafi'i Rahmatullahi Alayhi.

The Imam said:
"O Yunus! Hundreds of issues unite us, and only one issue divided us?
Don't try to be triumphant in all differences; sometimes, winning hearts is more important than winning situations.
Don't demolish bridges you built and crossed, for you may need them again one day for your return.
Always hate what is wrong, but do not hate the one who errs.
Hate sin with all your heart, but forgive and have mercy on the sinner.
Criticize speech, but respect the speaker.
Our job is to wipe out the disease, not the patient."

Apakah Yang Dimaksudkan Dengan Wasiat?

10 Ways to Be Happier at Work

1. Plan your day

Whether you do it the night before, on the commute or once you sit at your desk, setting out a clear schedule of tasks and goals will improve your productivity and help stave off slumps of inactivity or boredom.
You should plan simple jobs for first thing and right after lunch to ease you into your work. Pick out a high point to look forward to and schedule around it.
A good plan will keep the work from piling up and at the end of the day you should feel more accomplished.

2. Personalise your workspace

In a typical nine to five, Monday to Friday job, you spend around 35 hours a week in one spot, working hard and smart. It makes sense, then, that your work space should feel like your space.
Employer policies on personalisation vary but there should be some scope for jazzing up your desk. This might be framed photos, stylish stationery or even just a customised desktop.
It has been suggested that customising your work area with plants and photos can make you feel more secure and stable in your job.

3. Get organised

Keep a to-do list like Any.do or workflow application like Trello open and up to date at your desk.
This will not only help you stick to your daily goals but also prioritise better and keep up a steady rhythm of activity
Checking off meetings and projects as you go will give you a little boost and provide evidence to the contrary on the days you feel like you aren't contributing.

4. Set long-term goals

As well as focusing on the day-to-day, you should keep a few things about where you want to end up in mind.
Whether you want to move up the ladder in your current career or move on to new pastures, visualising your path should encourage you in your present pursuits.
How does what you're doing now tie in to a 10 year timeline? You don't have to know every detail right now, but it's worth considering.

5. Reward yourself

Achievements, big and small, should be celebrated.
Did you ace that presentation? Treat yourself to a special meal. Just finish a big project? Maybe it's time to use up some leave and take a long weekend.
Planning a reward ahead of time can give you extra incentive to get the job done.
Positive reinforcement and self-management are key to inspiring enthusiasm for your work.

6. Be honest with yourself

Don't take on mountains of work or volunteer for things you simply can't do.
The momentary approval from your boss isn't worth the upset later. Being realistic about your strengths and weaknesses will boost your confidence and help you improve.
Work-related stress causes financial services workers 25 days' worth of productivity a year, according to research from Britain's Healthiest Workplace (BSW).
Knowing yourself and your limits will not only curb an unhealthy mentality but help focus what it actually is you want from your job.

7. Leave your desk (occasionally)

Wandering aimlessly around the office might be a bad idea but stretching your legs every so often is a good habit to adopt.
Taking a trip up and down a few flights of stairs or just going to make a cup of tea will help stop stiffness and boredom from creeping up on you.
Breaks keep your brain more active and should help if you are prone to procrastination.

8. Reach out at lunchtime

Eating alone might bring a little rare serenity to your schedule, but doing it every day is just downright lonely.
Invite a colleague to join you and even get out of the building for a walk and a change of scenery. If that isn't feasible, make a personal call or FaceTime a friend during your break.
Making time to enjoy some company is healthy and a good old gab is an excellent way to cheer yourself up.

9. Smile

You may have every reason not to but smiling anyway can improve your mood greatly.
Forbes reported that smiling improves your own mood and the mood of those around you.
Displaying a positive attitude will affect how others interact with you and will help boost worker interactions.

10. Switch off at hometime

We're all guilty of working longer than we should or letting that one project weigh on our minds 24/7.
But doing this contributes to stress and feelings of resentment towards your job.

Try to reduce the amount of time you work from home in the evenings and on the weekend, if you can. Spend quality time with your family and community. And, be sure to switch off your devices a couple of hours before bed to help you get a better sleep.

Malaysia is most Muslim-friendly nation, says travel study

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia tops the ranks once again for being the most Muslim friendly nation for tourists.
This is the second consecutive year that Malaysia has been in the number one spot for halal travel in the Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI).
The MasterCard-CrescentRating Global Muslim Travel Index 2016 covered 130 destinations – including 92 non-Muslim countries – to benchmark how destinations are catering to the Muslim travel market.
Malaysia scored 81.9 out of hundred in the index. The United Arab Emirates is in second place with a score of 74.7 with Turkey in third spot with 73.9. Indonesia was in fourth spot with a score of 70.6. Singapore scored 68.4.
The study reveals that there were an estimated 117 million Muslim visitor arrivals globally, representing almost 10% of the entire travel market, according to CrescentRating.
The study forecasts Muslim visitor arrivals to reach 186 million by 2020, with a market value exceeding US$200 billion.
The CEO of CrescentRating and HalalTrip, Fazal Bahardeen, said: “One of the biggest trends we are seeing is non-OIC destinations making a concerted effort to attract the Muslim tourist and they now represent over 63% of the destinations covered in the GMTI.
“For example, Japan and the Philippines have taken some major steps over the last few months to diversify their visitor arrivals and boost their economy in the process.”
All 130 destinations in the GMTI were scored against a backdrop of criteria that included suitability as a family holiday destination, the level of services and facilities it provides, accommodation options, marketing initiatives as well as visitor arrivals.
Top 10 Muslim Friendly Destinations (Muslim countries):
1. Malaysia
2. United Arab Emirates
3. Turkey
4. Indonesia
5. Qatar
6. Saudi Arabia
7. Oman
8. Morocco
9. Jordan
10. Egypt

Top 10 Muslim Friendly Destinations (non-Muslim countries):

Sa’eed was sitting at the waiting area at the Jeddah airport after having completed the rites of hajj, and next to him was another person who completed his hajj.  The man next to him said: I work as a contractor and Allah (swt) has blessed me with performing my tenth hajj.

Sa’eed told him: hajj mabroor, may Allah accept and forgive you your sins. The man smiled and said: ameen. Then he asked him: have you performed hajj before this time?  Saeed was hesitating to tell him, and then he said: by Allah, it’s a long story and I don’t want to hurt your head with my talk.  The man laughed and said: please tell me, as you see we have nothing to do, we’re just waiting.

Sa’eed smile and said: yes, waiting is the start of my story. I’ve been waiting years so that I can go to hajj.  After working for thirty years as a physiotherapist in a private hospital, I was able to save enough money to go for hajj. The same day I went to get my salary, I came across one of the mother’s who’s paralyzed son I treat. I could see her face was worried and anxious. She said: I leave you to Allah’s keeping, brother Sa’eed this is our last visit to this hospital. I was surprised with her words and I thought she wasn’t happy with my treatment, and that she was considered moving her son to another hospital. She told me: no brother Sa’eed, Allah bears witness that you were to my son like a father, and you helped him in his treatment when we had lost hope. Then she left very saddened.·
The man next to him interrupted and said: that’s strange, if she was pleased with your treatment and her son was improving then why did she leave?  Sa’eed answered: that’s what I thought too, so I went to the administration to find out what happened. They told me the boy’s father had lost his job and was unable to continue paying for his son’s treatment.
The man next to him said: there is no might and power except with Allah, poor them, how did you deal with it?

Sa’eed said: I went to the manager and pleaded with him to continue treating the boy on the hospital’s expense, but he sharply rejected and said, ‘this is a private institution not a charity’.
I left his office sad and broken for this family. Then suddenly, I placed my hands in my pocked which had my money all prepared for hajj. I stood in my place for a while, then I raised my head above and spoke to my Rabb: O Allah, You know how I feel and You know there is nothing more beloved to me than to go to Your house and do hajj, and to visit Your messenger’s masjid. You know I have been working all my life for this moment, but I prefer this poor lady and her son over myself, so don’t deprive me of Your favors.
I went to the accounts desk and paid all I had for his treatment which covered the next six months. I begged the accountant to tell the lady that it’s from the hospital expense for special cases. He was affected by this and there were tears in his eyes and said, ‘baarak Allah feek and people like you’
The man next to him then said: if you donated all of your money, then how did you go to hajj?
Sa’eed said: I went back to my home sad that day for having lost the opportunity of a lifetime for hajj. But my heart was filled with happiness that I removed a distress from the lady and her son. I slept that night with a tear on my cheek. I had a dream and I was making tawaf around the ka’aba and people were saying salam to me and they told me: ‘hajj mabroor O Sa’eed, for you have performed hajj in the heavens before you performed hajj on earth’. I immediately woke up and felt an indescribable happiness. I praised Allah (swt) for everything and was pleased with His decree.

When I got up from my sleep, my phone rang and it was the hospital’s manager. He told me the owner of the hospital wants to go to hajj this year and he won’t go without his personal therapist. But his therapist’s wife is expecting and has reached her final days of pregnancy so he can’t leave her. Would you do me favor? Would you accompany him in his hajj?
I made sujood shukr to Allah (swt). And as you see, Allah (swt) granted me to go to His house without having to pay anything. And all praise to Allah, the owner of the hospital insisted on giving me something for his accompaniment. I told him the story of the lady and her son, and he demanded the boy be treated at the hospital from his own personal expense. And to place a donations box in the hospital for the treatment of needy patients. And on top of that, he gave the boy’s father a job at one of his companies. He even returned the money I had initially spent for the boy’s treatment. Have you seen great favors than the favours of my Rabb? Subhan Allah.
The man next to him hugged him and told him: by Allah I have never felt this kind of shyness as I’m feeling now. I would perform hajj one year after another thinking I was doing something great, and that my place with Allah would be elevated as a result of it. But now I understood that your hajj is equivalent to a thousand of mine. I went to the house of Allah, but Allah invited you to His house. May Allah accept your hajj.

Always think good about Allah (swt) and know He is able to do all things.

We ask Allah (swt) to open our hearts and to open the door of hajj for us. May He never deprive us of His great favours.  Aamiin.
