Located approximately 60 million light-years away from Earth in the constellation Dorado. NGC 1566 is an intermediate spiral galaxy, falling in-between barred spiral galaxies, like the Milky Way, and those lacking bright central bars. There is considerable star forming activity in the spiral arms. The galaxy is classified as a Seyfert galaxy, a galaxy that emits radiation from a very small region in its core.
