The complete arch of the Milky Way frames a remote desert road near San Pedro de Atacama in Chile's Antofagasta Region. At an elevation of 2,100m (6,890ft) and with just 38mm (1.5in) of rain a year, there is little cloud cover or atmospheric turbulence to obscure the night sky.
